Union of Equality: European Commission presents Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030

The European Commission presents an ambitious Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 to ensure their full participation in society, on an equal basis with others in the EU and beyond, in line with the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which establish equality and non-discrimination as cornerstones of EU policies. W20 online Kick-off event 22nd and 23rd of February

The Kickoff of #Women20 took place on Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd of February, marking the official starts of all W20 activities.The two day-event began with the opening of the tasks entrusted to the Chair of the W20, Linda Laura Sabbadini, the Minister of Equal Opportunity Elena Bonetti and the Sherpa of the W20, Martina Rogato. MEPs condemn Poland’s near-total abortion ban

MEPs condemned Poland's almost total ban on abortion and called on the European Union to step up its fight against what they see as more backsliding on fundamental rights in the country. Last month, Poland's top constitutional court published its reasoning on a verdict that tightened the country's already tough abortion laws. The verdict means abortions will be permitted only in cases of rape, incest and when a mother's life is endangered. Read more

Promoting gender equality in (STEM) education and careers –

On 26 January 2021, FEMM members discussed the draft report on “Promoting gender equality in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and careers”, prepared by the rapporteur Susana Solís Pérez(Renew). The draft report focuses on an unparalleled shortage of women in STEM careers and education, on reasons why women are less likely than their male counterparts to enter STEM education and occupations or remain in them, as well as on the consequences of this shortage.
